Regional Training from NN/LM Spring 2007

February 14, 2007

April and May bring opportunities for people in this region to attend training classes offered by the National Training Center and Clearinghouse (NTCC), the education and training arm of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine.

These classes are suitable for librarians and non-librarians alike — anyone who may benefit from learning more about these NLM databases is welcome to attend. So, please feel free to publicize these events widely. There is no fee charged for attendance. The trainers are wonderful — you’ll enjoy them as well as learn from them.

Registration is required for these classes. Register online at http://nnlm.gov/ntcc/classes/register.html

So, mark your calendars and plan to attend. Here’s the schedule for April and May:

U Conn Health Center, Farmington, CT
April 16, 2007 PubMed
April 17, 2007 TOXNET
April 18, 2007 NLM Gateway & ClinicalTrials.gov

Countway Library, Harvard University, Boston, MA
May 14, 2007 PubMed
May 15, 2007 TOXNET
May 16, 2007 NLM Gateway & ClinicalTrials.gov

The PubMed class is a day-long event and, upon completion, attendees will receive 7.5 MLA CE credits. The class agenda is available online at http://nnlm.gov/ntcc/classes/agenda.html#Pub. Whether you are a new to PubMed or an experienced user, you will learn new things at this class.

TOXNET is also a full-day class that teaches the basics of using this incredible NLM resource. This class has been awarded 6 MLA CE credits. The class agenda is online at http://nnlm.gov/ntcc/classes/agenda.html#Tox

The NLM Gateway & ClinicalTrials.gov course is a half-day course with its major emphasis on teaching attendees how to use the Gateway effectively. It also includes a one-hour overview of ClinicalTrials.gov. The class agenda is available online at http://nnlm.gov/ntcc/classes/agenda.html#Gateway. This class has been awarded 3.5 MLA CE credits.

Just a note: The NTCC requires a minimum number of participants to be registered for each class prior to the event or the class will be cancelled. So, please make your plans to attend and get yourself registered!

If you have any questions about the classes, please contact Donna Berryman, Outreach & Education Coordinator, New England Region, NN/LM 1-800-338-7657 Donna.Berryman@umassmed.edu
